69th New York Infantry letter accepting resignation of Capt. Thomas Cartwright, Sr. from the 63rd New York Infantry.
Dated February 7th, 1863, 1st Lt. John J. Gosson writes to Cartwright that he is "happy to hear today that your resignation went through here this morning without the least delay. Allow me here on this occasion to express my deep sorrow that you are about to leave us..."Gosson goes on to say "P. S. poor young Emmet is dead"
I'm not sure who Emmett is, would be a good research project. One page letter is in fine condition, with wear as shown in the scan.
