Beautiful 44th New York Letterhead Soldier's letter with excellent content! Four page period ink letter, written from "Camp Butterfield, Halls Hill Jan 28th 1862". The author is Private Frederick O. Friar (he signs the letter "Fred") of Company "I". Here are a few excerpts: "...I can hear the report from some of their large cannons at Fts Corcoran, Worth Ellsworth Albany and others along the river... or are rejoicing over some victory won by their Brother soldiers in Kentucky or Missouri...I do wish they would let us have a general fight I believe it would do us a considerable good, for we have been penned up here to long for our own good. We want a little smell of powder to prevent camp diseases and cause the blood to flow freely...There are a good many good boys in my Co and some that will be remembered by me till longest day I live, They seem to me like a band of brothers and the seperation from them will be like breaking up a family.."Letter is signed "Fred", he does mention the first names of several of his fellow soldiers as well. The letter is in fine condition with just an incredible letterhead from this famous regiment. Don't miss this one! $275.00 plus shipping
