Those of us who have extensive military history libraries know from experience how dry and boring most of these books can be. I actually try to read one or two new books every week (yes, I really do), and I have learned that if I want to go to sleep quickly to go ahead and grab one of those books filled with minutia and off to slumberland I go!
So, in the interest of keeping your reading both enjoyable and informative I highly recommend books written and edited by Pete Cozzens. I consider Pete a friend (and fellow fake hunter)! and I have found his books to be filled with facts and details, but presented in such a way to still make them easy and enjoyable to read. He has written extensively on the civil war as well as the Indian Wars.
In my case, I have consumed his series- "Eyewitnesses to the Indian Wars, 1865-1890" from cover to cover. Pete recently sent me a copy of "The Indian History of the Modoc War" in which he writes a new introduction to this important history by Jeff Riddle. I am placing a link to his books on Amazon.com below, and I recommend you have a look!
